Zealots and Cults

Zealots who subscribe to extreme religious views, be they Jewish or Christian, perceive the current genocide being committed against Palestinians in Gaza, and the West Bank but on a less extreme scale, through a biblical 'end of times' lens. It matters naught if one is a right wing, settler colonial Jew on the Israeli War Council or Senator Graham baying for a cataclysmic war against Iran. The root of it all is a racist ethno-supremacy. These zealots characterize this battle, which they support, as civilizational.

They are correct, though their myopia blinds them to the civilizational battle which will come. There is no basis for ethno-supremacy in science and it is abhorred by moral leaders. It exists in cults.

A civilizational civil war which is likely to soon erupt will tear asunder the remaining threads of 'values' which underpinned the ideology of the last few centuries of European settler colonialism. The core of the civil war will be moral and legal, the fields of battle will be the International Court of Justice and the UN itself. At stake is the primacy of the US, the integrity of NATO and the moral basis for the UN system.

International Law

In Israel Cannot Hide From the UN Court Prof. Sachs writes:

Israelis widely believe that the Arab nations are implacably out to destroy Israel. They do not travel in the Arab countries and do not know or understand the attitudes and policies of those neighboring societies. They do not attend to the statements of Arab and Islamic leaders calling for peace based on the two-state solution because Israeli mainstream media, like U.S. mainstream media, is in the grips of relentless state propaganda, brain-deadening patriotism and relentless war-mongering.

An eventual finding by the world’s highest court that Israel itself has now become a perpetrator of genocide will therefore shake Israeli society to the roots and will rupture Israel’s social contract with world Jewry. At that very painful and very dire stage, Israeli public opinion may begin to reconsider its current assumptions.

Yes, despite the ICJ ruling Israel’s killing goes on, but under greatly heightened legal and political scrutiny. Every Israeli murder in cold blood, every bombing of a hospital, every destruction of a Palestinian school or university, every Israeli denial of food and water for Gazans, will be meticulously recorded by South Africa’s superb legal team, and by highly respected legal institutes around the world, including the Center for Constitutional Rights and Law for Palestine. All will be duly conveyed to the ICJ.

Yes, these deeds of murdering children and other innocents are being noted. The records for future and current historians are being written, and not only by the team of lawyers representing RSA (Republic of South Africa) to the ICJ.

History is being written

This is a screenshot of a paragraph of citation per sentence prose by Chris Hedges in The Silence of the Damned:

The paragraph's 165 words are composed into 13 sentences with 16 hyper-text references. Every single one of these links to a crime of genocide, a war crime or a crime against humanity, at a density of 1 international crime per 10 words of prose. I don't know if this is a record for a news article, but its must be up there.

Further down Hedge's compilation of crimes he insightfully summarizes the collection of attacks against hospitals, schools and UN personnel which have been repeatedly documented during this ongoing genocide:

Israel is seeking to destroy not only Gaza’s health care system and infrastructure, but UNRWA which provides food and aid to 2 million Palestinians.

The genocidal Zionist objective to eradicate Palestinians from Gaza is far more easily achieved if the UN agency which provides so much support to these refugees is itself eliminated.

In By Hurting UN Agency, the West Sides With Genocide Jonathan Cook displays the level of his historic research on the decades long genocide of Palestinians at the hands of the Zionist settlers.

After WWII the UN established the International Refugee Organization (IRO) to assist with care and relocation for the millions of refugees in Europe, the Middle East, North Africa and elsewhere. In Europe those refugees were commonly Jews fleeing the persecution of the ethno-supremacist Nazis. The Zionists needed settlers for their project in Israel.

In association with their declaration of the state of Israel and the ethnic cleansing of Palestine in 1948, the Zionists and their western backers had a new, different UN agency established to handle Palestinian refugees, and Palestinian refugees only. That agency, The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), was formed in 1949. The IRO evolved into the still existing UNHCR.

This bifurcation of refugee agencies was essential so that separate processes could be used for Palestinian and Jewish refugees, which allowed Israel to settle Jewish refugees on stolen Palestinian land. The hopes of the Zionists were that the Palestinian refugees could be relocated to neighbouring states. This did not occur and as the refugee population ballooned, particularly in Gaza, UNWRA's activities needed to be focused there.

The Zionists' desire to destroy UNWRA is decades old, writes Cook:

Even before October 7, UNRWA had become an obstacle that needed removing if Israel was ever to ethnically cleanse Gaza. That is why Israel has repeatedly lobbied to stop the biggest donors, especially the US, funding UNRWA. Back in 2018, for example, the refugee agency was plunged into an existential crisis when President Donald Trump acquiesced to Israeli pressure and cut all its funding. Even after the decision was reversed, the agency has been limping along financially.

Hedges describes the consistent Zionist effort to destroy UNWRA as a part of the genocide:

More than 152 of UNRWA’s employees in Gaza — including school principals, teachers, health workers, a gynecologist, engineers, support staff and a psychologist — have been killed since the Israeli attacks began. Over 141 UNRWA facilities have been bombed into rubble. The death toll is the largest loss of staff during a conflict in the U.N.’s history.

The current accusation which serves as the basis for the latest financial attack on UNWRA, writes Cook, is:

Israel claims 12 local U.N. staff — out of 13,000 — are implicated in Hamas’ break-out from the open-air prison of Gaza on Oct. 7. The sole evidence appears to be coerced confessions, likely extracted through torture, from Palestinian fighters captured by Israel that day.

Raping beheaded babies

The recent "funding crisis" attack on UNWRA can be considered, via a brief detour in Israeli media deception and false narratives. Both the allegations of "beheaded babies" and "rape" which were slavishly reported by the central 'M' of the MICIMATT have been totally debunked and revealed to be Israeli generated propaganda. This behaviour, and the above listed motivation should be kept in mind when considering the above Israeli allegations.

The result of these dubious allegations have been that "Germany, France, Japan, Switzerland, Canada, Netherlands, Italy, Australia and Finland" [quoting Cook], and Sweden [see comment below by Lux Aeterna] have reduced funding.

Former UK Ambassador Craig Murray, on Judging Freedom (see sources), noted that there is a split in Europe in response to the funding attack with Spain doubling their funding.

The Civil War

What legal spectrum of participation in and support for Israel in their genocide exists in international law? Clearly, Israel is the instigator and prime actor. Consider the next classification, of complicity.

The US is heavily implicated for its military support; its bombs are killing the children. The UK are providing intelligence via overflights. The two nations combined are illegally attacking Yemen and its effective government, Ansar Allah. They are complying with the genocide convention, actively preventing it, by attacking shipping owned by Israeli's or bound for Israel.

Irish MEPs, Daly and Wallace, have vociferously accused EU Commission leader van der Lyen and the EU parliament of providing political coverage for, rather than denouncing, the Zionists advocating for and committing the genocide in Gaza.

Recall that Francis A. Boyle appeared on CN Live! recently. He mentioned that he had accurately predicted exactly the judgment which the ICJ would issue, which this author verified. (Interestingly, the article has been disappeared, though still exists thanks to Archive.org).

Cook states that the "Western donor states [who] cut their funding [have plunged] Gaza deeper into calamity". This, states Cook, amounts to "collective punishment". Cook then states that Boyle believes this this action, the cutting of funds for UNWRA which produces this direct consequence at this time:

shifts most of these Western states from their existing complicity with Israel’s genocide into direct and active participation in the genocide, by violating the 1948 Genocide Convention’s prohibition on 'deliberately inflicting on the group [in this case, Palestinians] conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part.'

Thus, should these charges be brought to the ICJ, and if this opinion is indicative of an ICJ judgment, then Europe and the US will be split over whether to accept the validity of the court's judgment based upon positions they are taking now, perhaps without considering these consequences.

The disagreement over the ICJ judgment's validity by these nations of the (mostly) former European colonial enterprises and custodians of the European Enlightenment (those 'values') will be split over the most fundamental of all items of international humanitarian law, the genocide convention.

A civilizational civil war over the applicability of international humanitarian law is likely to erupt within the nations which have been espousing its essential importance for decades. The constant reaffirmation of the importance of international humanitarian law can be considered rhetoric when spoken by European political leaders. It is, however, fundamental to that which western European people believe about themselves. I know. I lived there for 2 decades and worked at an institution which saw a constant flow of people from all over western Europe through it.

This battle, this ideological split over morality and the rule of law, will occur during a time of momentous geopolitical upheaval as the US hegemon flails in demise, the primacy of its dollar wanes as a reserve currency, confidence in its and Europe's banks by the rest of the world are undermined and international trade flows rebalance around this changing environment.

The question to be asked by the remaining European intellectuals who ascribe to the principles of the European Enlightenment is in which realpolitik appeal to frame the risk of abandoning International Law to the technocrats who rule the EU? Or, perhaps, they have seen beyond the EU, recognize its demise too, and will be looking to a new generation of national leaders in Europe.
