The previous report from BAC News.
Announcer: Tonight we bring you a transcript of a public re-run of the hearing for an application for appeal for Mr. Assange. Counsel representing Assange is represented by P for person, or perhaps for Paul, Assange' middle name. Counsel for the USA is represented by S for state. Of the two judges, the one who spoke is represented by J.
The transcript begins after the clerk of the court has begun proceedings and P, representing Assange, addresses the bench.
P: From our written submission we bring to your attention that the security contractor for Ecuador at the Embassy in which Mr. Assange was residing, UC Global, was surveilling the Embassy where our client's legal consultations in preparing his defence for the magistrate's hearing occurred. This surveillance, including audio recordings, were provided to the United States of America who initiated the case for extradition. To whit, the USA was spying on our client as he was preparing his defense.
J: You have documented this in your submission?
P: Yes.
J: Briefly summarize the source and nature of this claim.
P: Judge Santiago Pedraz of Spain’s national court, the Audienca Nacional, has admitted as evidence in a case before that court the details which we have supplied in our submission. The evidence substantiates our statements to you, that the USA was intruding on the privacy of Assange's legal preparation for the extradition case before Judge Baraitser.
J: Thank you. Counsel representing the United States of America, do you have anything to add?
S: [considers perjury] No, your honor.
[J turns to fellow judge to confer].
J: The court will take recess and reconvene after luncheon at 1pm.
[After luncheon].
J: If there is one civil right which we officers of the court stand to protect above any other, it is the right to a fair trial. On this the integrity of the judiciary stands.
The application is granted. [Stikes gavel.]
Clerk of the Court: Be upstanding.
