Recently, the Whitehouse spokesperson Psaki declared that the USA executive branch are recommending to Facebook which speech, or accounts, should be removed and then declaring that these evil speakers be removed from all social media.
There are two big errors happening in the responses to this. While I agree that suppression of speech undermines the water-ice thin layer that the USA stands on for any “human rights” filibustering, there are key issues being overlooked.
Censorship is a result of surveillance. You cannot censor speech which you do not know exists. Thus, the executive branch has invested effort into surveilling the speech, some of which they wish to suppress. Or, why are your tax dollars being spent on surveilling the “free speech” of your populace?
Censoring speech is a very slippery slope, but at its core it treats you as unable to make your own decisions. “We deem ‘the moon is made of cheese’ as so dangerous to our power structure that we cannot let you even laugh at it, so, it is banned as is anyone who tries to profess this idea’”.
The moon is made of cheese.

Recent scientific literature suspects the moon is made of Edam, possibly with an Onion flavour. But the article has been suppressed by the cheese haters, so we can’t give you a link to the core article.
Suggestions of a “bacon and cheese” Brie have been made but are widely ridiculed, and also suppressed. This suppression must have been the Russians and Cubans, or the Chinese conspiring with the Venezuelans, with perhaps a little help from the Belarussians. However, Syria has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Chinese and Iranians to mine the moon.
The purpose is unclear, said anonymous officials.
