Col. Jacques Baud: Sanctioned by the EU for Speech
The EU has betrayed its own principles to enforce conformance with a lost narrative over a lost war.

The European Union is trying to eliminate sources of information that do not confirm with its official interpretation of real world events.
One of the latest persons hit with official EU restrictions is the former Swiss intelligence official and author Jacques Baud
The Council of the European Union has sanctioned [legal ammendment] Swiss citizen Col. Jacques Baud. The sanctions have enabled the EU to freeze his assets [sanction law] and thus deny him an ability to live (purchase food, pay bills).
These punishments are enacted by the executive arm of the EU (by adding Baud to a group list of persons to be punished). Baud is not guilty of any crime. No European court has been involved. The office of Kaja Kallas, the EU foreign policy spokesperson, is responsible for compiling and proposing these punishments, says Swiss Professor of International Law Pascal Lottaz.
The executive arm of the EU supra-government has exacted punishment on a citizen of a non-EU state in the middle of Europe (Switzerland) who lives in the EU capital (Brussels) without involving any court or charge.
The Council of the European Union has become a bureaucratic dictatorship. It has disolved the separation of powers foundational to democratic governance.
It seems that Council of the European Union is acting illegally, in contravention of foundational human rights law (the European equivalent of habeus corpus, the right to hear accusations, and the right to defend oneself against them).
Nailed It
Col. Baud has been one of the most incisive military commentators on the war in Ukraine. His analysis is based on his understanding of both Russian and NATO military doctrine, as outlined in this earlier article.
It was Col. Baud who introduced the now accepted analysis of the war in Ukriane, as being one of attrition.
Silencing him will not affect the war. It is still lost. See the reports by Military Summary if you wish to follow it closely. At this stage Russia has advantages over Ukraine and its NATO backers in every domain (number of troops, level of training, amount of ammunition, level of military technology, …). Russia is taking and keeping territory. Ukraine is losing it, every day.
Col. Baud has also provided expert commentary on other conflicts, including Israel’s genocide of Palestinians in Palestine. These analyses have included exposing the immorality of the IDF, including the hollow justifications it uses to violate every “ceasefire”.
Col. Baud has been a weekly guest on Nima Alkorshid’s Dialogue Works for months. He has been a repeated guest on The Duran and other independent media podcasts. He is a voluminous author.
Nailed to the Wall
Baud has joined an honorable list of persecuted whistleblowers truthtellers including Francesca Albanese (sanctioned by the US), Julian Assange (persecuted by the US, UK, Sweden and Ecuador), Richard Medhurst, Craig Murray, Asa Winstanley, Edward Snowden, John Kiriaku and many more.
They have been punished by the Political West for political offenses (speaking truth to power). Their punishments have included abuses of the law and the instrumentalization of the western financial architecture for punishment (personal economic sanctions not authorized by a court).
Defending Free Speech
If the EU thinks it can silence Swiss military intelligence Col. Baud, it thinks it can silence anyone. The most effective way to stop the EU continuing this oppression of silencing people’s political expression is by shaming it.
Please, take a moment to publicize this despicable betrayal by the EU of its own stated principles. You can help ensure that the EU’s attempt to silently sanction, and thus silence Baud, and others, will fail.

The fact I never use Russian material for my books, but exclusively Ukrainian and Western information and that I consequently refused invitations from Russian media, I am still a “Russian propagandist”!
As stated in my books, my work is not about who is good and who is bad, but about how bad media reflect the realities on the ground. I wanted to show that even without Russian information you can have a better understanding of the conflict. The idea is that the way you understand a crisis defines the way to solve it!

Just to bore ourselves, lets parse the official “announcement” from the European Council which it issued (in its legal note) when it began punishing Col. Baud without consulting a court.
We’ll take the “announcement” one sentence at a time, verbatim:
Jacques Baud, a former Swiss army colonel and strategic analyst, is a regular guest on pro-Russian television and radio programmes.
I have never seen Col. Baud on a Russian television program or heard him on a Russian radio program. I have seen him, as noted above on Western podcasts.
It should not matter to the EU if Baud is on Russia media because they BANNED it at the BEGINNING of the WAR.
I know. I was living in Europe at the time. See the article linked. It is from March 6th, 2022, within a fortnight of the start of the international phase of the Ukraine war (the SMO).
He acts as a mouthpiece for pro-Russian propaganda and makes conspiracy theories, for example accusing Ukraine of orchestrating its own invasion in order to join NATO.
This is a double falsehood. Col. Baud speaks for himself and nobody else. The accusation of the ‘Ukraine orchestration’ was Col. Baud quoting Aristovich, a very close adviser to now expired Ukrainian President Zelensky.
“Conspiracy theories” is a throw away line. The accusers provide no proof. Evidence free assertions prove nothing.
Therefore, Jacques Baud is responsible for, ...
There is no therefore. Therefore we don’t need to read their conclusion to justify their punishment.
What we are seeing here is the executive branch of a government issuing punishment without use of the judicial branch. A court would provide a defense to the accused.
The punishment is based upon lies. This is why a court was not used.

Hüseyin Doğru & Nathalie Yamb
Mr. Doğru is a dual national of Turkey and Germany. He was sanctioned by the EU on 2025-05-20, seven months before Baud. He was also sanctioned for expressing himself (reporting, actually). The claim was the same as for Baud, by reporting events which some group in the EU does not like, one undermines society and therefore helps the current ‘enemies’ of the society. Don’t look for logic in this. There is none.
Nathalie Yamb is a Swiss citizen with one Swiss and one Cameroonian parent. She is politically motivated to decolonize Africa from French colonial rule. Her European Council sanction declares that she is issuing Russian disinformation. (Again, forget logic.) She was sanctioned in June, 2025.
No charge. No court. Just executive branch punishment.
