An Anniversary

As the anniversary approached of Russia providing military assistance to the Donetsk and Lugansk oblasts, and invading other areas of Ukraine, the question was how to frame this moment?

The background to the lead up to Russia's overt involvement has been beautifully provided by MoonOfAlabama. A ridiculously short summary of that could be "this military intervention was about as provoked as is possible" with a genocide on the cards.

We could look to the much anticipated speech to the Russian parliament by President Putin. It was a real "State of the Federation" speech, detailing the facts of Russia's economy and changes in social policy which the executive wishes for the parliament to pursue. On the Special Military Operation front there was nothing surprising or new. The message is simple; this will take a long time and we need to accept this challenge.

This may seem strange from the perspective of "shock and awe", but makes absolute sense from Russia's. She, with her local allies and the Chechen "rat catchers" are slowly destroying the West's military reserves while Ukraine sacrifices its young and old in an artillery meat-grinder which the Russian military is expert at maintaining. The west is playing into Russia’s hands. The attempted economic disruption failed horridly and has bounced back on Europe.

After a year Lugansk is "liberated". Donetsk is 50% liberated, and that will jump very rapidly after the fall of Bakhmut (Artyomovsk) as Russia obtains the high ground to its west. The coastal areas bordering the Azov Sea in Zaparozhye and Kherson provide the logistical capacity which Russia wishes. There is another reason for the capture of the section of Kherson which is strangely ignored. Ukraine had dammed the canal which provided fresh water to Crimea. Re-establishing the flow of water to Crimea was a key objective of that incursion.

So, the contact line is fairly stable, except around Artyomovsk (Bakhmut) and the odd skirmish. Ukraine has lost 20% of its territory and the Nazi infested Ukraine government will never regain it. There is a very simple reason for Russia’s slow play. Sudden advances create hyperbole in western media. They get bored with the slow grind. If the casualties are at a 1:8 ratio, why rush things?

I dislike writing media analysis. It is boring and easy. Nonetheless, while waiting for prompts from my subconscious on the core topic for this article, this was the topic which constantly reasserted itself. Sorry.

Truth is the First Casualty of War

Reporting on the Ukraine conflict in the west has been abysmal. This is not accidental or surprising. See the mechanics. The Ukraine government is lead by a puppet, zElensky, and the government is dependent on funding from the USA to pay its salaries. Obviously, USA intelligence agencies, particularly the CIA, have their claws into the Ukrainian equivalents. Reporting on the conflict from the west has been almost entirely based on sources from within the Ukraine establishment.

So, the western media reports what the USA is paying for. To add insult to injury the west (well, Europe) banned (universally censored) RT and Sputnik.

The revelations from the Church Committee, and by Carl Bernstein, regarding the CIA's influence over the USA's media is old news. Insert the odd pliable journalist, have the wood over the odd editor, pay the odd stringer and "news" could be created. This old strategy is hard work compared to controlling a government which would be consulted for all details. This media control has been a walk in the park.

Lets remind ourselves of the complete failure of the western legacy media. "The Ghost of Kiev"? The "Bucha massacre" (there was a massacre, but Russia had nothing to do with it)? And what was that thing about "Snake Island"? The "mass graves" fiasco, exposed by Bartlett. Pure war-propaganda lapped up by a compliant legacy media which abandoned all principles of verification.

Intelligence agencies don't just work in media, they work heavily in social media too. Do you recall all the Twitter "blue check" idiots putting a Ukrainian flag in their handles? Well done intel agencies, you created a mass psychosis.

Fairly early in the conflict, I was traveling through Denmark and visited Copenhagen's Central Station. In full view was a huge Ukrainian flag, a physically in your face component of the psy-op.

Some Inconvenient Truths

Back in 2015 and 2016 western media were reporting that a collection of neo-Nazi groups had influence over the politics in Ukraine. It was already known that Ukraine was incredibly corrupt. Sleepy Joe bragged about the condition for aid to Ukraine being the firing of the anti-corruption prosecutor. We then learned that his son was receiving plenty of money for nothing.

During the conflict we have seen repeated attacks by Ukraine on market places, where the only targets are civilians. Brave journalists, like Eva K. Bartlett, have reported on these war crimes. There was also the incineration of Ukrainian prisoners of war by a HIMARS rocket; the Ukrainians were killing their own prisoners of war. Ukraine repeatedly launched rockets which would distribute "petal mines". These small anti-personnel (people) mines were distributed over the city of Donetsk. Their targets were civilian. Ukraine has repeatedly targeted hotels in which reporters were staying, both international and Russian. There is no depravity to which they will not stoop.

There is only one way to square the attacks on civilians and journalists by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. They don't consider these people human. Thus we return to the Nazi elements of the Ukraine government and armed forces.

Hence, we can draw a simple conclusion. The USA has funded and armed, and also induced western Europe to fund and arm a state infiltrated with Nazi's to fight a proxy war against Russia.

Russia has experience with this game.
