In “The Petrogas-Dollar: The Secret US Strategy Behind the Iran War” (see Sources) Richard Medhurst presents a convincing case, based on documented recent history, that the war of aggression on Iran by the US and Israel is a core part of the US imperial project. The purpose of the illegal war is to extend US control over world energy resources, markets and production.
The reserve status of the US dollar, or the “LNG dollar” as Medhurst recasts it, will be preserved by demand because of the expanded US control over global energy production.
Background
It helps to already understand the US Military Industrial Complex as the overt operations arm of the empire. It is used if the financial and covert arms of the empire, as out lined by John Perkins in “Confessions of an Economic Hitman” (see Sources), have not already succeeded subverting the non-compliant government.
To this, add the revolution of “fracked” gas. The fracking method realised gigantic quantities of natural gas trapped under US territory. The extraction method converted the US from an energy consumer to a producer. It freed the empire from constraints in its approach to the global energy market.
The Pirate State
In 2026 the US has been systematically attacking energy worldwide. It abducted the President of Venezuela to secure political control over the world’s largest oil reserves. It has attacked energy trade in international waters by stealing tankers and the oil in them. It has attacked Russia’s energy production. It has started a war which is destroying energy production facilities in the Persian Gulf.
At the beginning of Russia’s Special Military Operation the US destroyed the NordStream natural gas pipelines. The US used the war it provoked in Ukraine to capture the European energy market.
In the Iran war, the key attack was on Iran’s side of the huge Pars gas field which lies under the Persian Gulf. Extracting from it on one side is Iran, on the other Qatar.
Iran had stated that it would retaliate to attacks, in kind, against neighbouring states which were facilitating the war. In response to the US+Israel attack on the Iranian side of the Pars field, Iran attacked the facilities in Qatar. The Iranian retaliation removed Qatar’s gas production, 20% of the world’s LNG supply. The US+Israel attack engineered the removal of both extraction facilities, first Iran’s and then Qatar’s as a consequence.
The US mission for the war against Iran, argues Medhurst persuasively, is the destruction of the energy infrastructure in the Persian Gulf. The US is destroying competition to bind the world to its energy suppliers and currency.
Scope
Viewing the current behaviour of the US as an attack on China’s energy supply is a valid, and short sighted analysis. The correct term, as Brian Berletic quotes from US think tank produced foreign policy documents, is primacy.
There shall be no competitor to the US empire; neither China, nor anyone else.
Israel
The Zionist/Israel position has been elevated by the discovery of large gas fields off the Levantine coasts of Palestine, Lebanon and Syria (and Cyprus). The Greater Israel project is a genocidal nation building project for the Zionists. For the empire, Israel is a proxy to access and control those new gas fields. Israel has always been a colonial project. It remains so, no matter how vile.
As the Gulf Monarchies are destroyed in the war against Iran, one expects them to be replaced with compliant governments subservient to Israel. The Abraham accords will be reborn and/or renamed. Israel will rule the region as an imperial province. We will all be “Amalek” as a consequence, held guilty of thoughtcrime for words written on a t-shift.
Genocides do not matter to the empire. They are just a quaint label from international law, which the majority of the world’s governments have demonstrated as unimportant. More than a quarter of a million Palestinians are buried under the rubble and soil of Gaza, slaughtered by Israel. Nobody named in the Epstein files has been charged with raping children. They never will be.
What of genocides, wars of aggression, and ecocide?
