The NIST model does go on a bit longer, and starts to look even more unlike reality.
The bigger point is that, NIST did not release their model and its inputs, just the graphics of the output. Which is to say that NIST did alchemy.
They did something secretive and claimed a result. Science is where you inform people of what you did, and the result, so that they can then repeat the process (experiment) and see if they get the same result. If not, then it is a data point, and a non-repeatable, or contested one.
Science is built on repeatable experiments which produce consistent results. If you know how to work with finite element models, and have access to either of the software systems they used, I'm sure that Hulsey would provide the model, and probably the engineering drawings from which they constructed their model. Then you could play around with their WTC 7 model and do your own investigations.
