Two Genocides
Two genocides are currently being directly supported by the US, the dominant minority of the Western civilization.
The first is the most obvious, against the Palestinian people in Gaza and the West Bank. The prime actor is the state militia of Israel. It is being given political protection by the US and EU. The genocidal state is primarily being supplied weaponry for its outrage by the US and Germany.
The second is in the Ukraine. Since the US fostered and controlled coup of 2014, ethnic tensions in Ukraine were raised by allowing the small (2% or so) Nazi ideological element from western Ukraine (Galicia) to gain greater political power and to be integrated into the state militia. A rapid sequence of events lead to the creation of a civil war.
The population of Crimea rejected Ukrainian control by forcing Ukraine's security forces to choose between siding with them or leaving. The expression of the rejection was an overwhelming popular vote in Crimea to leave Ukraine and join Russia.
The two Donbas oblasts of Donetsk and Lugansk, in response to the "Anti-terror" operation initiated against the region by the new, unelected, US installed government of Ukraine, declared their independence. In response, a less dramatic but similar response occurred within the ranks of the local Ukrainian territorial defense units many of whom, perhaps a third to a half, joined the break away oblasts. This 'defection' gave the oblasts the forces, in persons and material, to resist the state's "Anti-terror" operation.
In the years which followed, a political solution to the conflict was developed, known as the Minsk II accords, which received universal support in the UN Security Council. We now know that France and Germany, the states given the role to facilitate the implementation of the accords, chose to allow this process to be a ruse. They, with the US, never forced Ukraine to recognize the leadership of the Donbas oblasts with whom negotiation was required to effect the accords. Instead, the armament manufacturers and associated contractors in training and logistics from the US and other NATO states profited from arming and training the Ukrainian army.
A rewriting of history from a false beginning was employed by the West's media in both cases. In Gaza it is the 2023 October 7th attack on the occupying forces of Israel by Hamas. The oppression can be easily be traced back to the Israeli 2007 instigation of the "siege" which established an open air prison in Gaza. For the Palestinian people, the Nakba in 1948 is the natural earlier "start-line" of the oppression and genocide. In the Donbas, Russia's direct involvement in the conflict on February 24th, 2022, is the 'start of history', ignoring the almost 8 year long earlier component of the civil war. These dishonest historical rewrites are still used to frame discussion of the conflicts in Western media.
Due to the US Intelligence leaks of April 2023, it has been publicly known that the US' military intelligence knew that Ukraine was losing their war against the Donbas militias and Russia's armed forces since before March that year. The conflict had been escalated from a civil war into a NATO vs. Russia war, with the repeated rearming of Ukraine from NATO member states, led predominantly by the US. By this stage, 14 months into the conversion of the conflict from a civil war into an international war, the population of Ukraine had fallen by around a third. The emigrant population had fled to either Europe or Russia, leaving a remaining population of around 25 million.
As of April 2024, a year after the US Intel Leaks, informed estimates of deaths of Ukrainian soldiers are in the realm of 650 000. Russia conservatively counts 500 000 Ukrainian deaths. Ukrainian statistics are completely unreliable due to deliberate dishonesty. One should add to this ‘killed in action’ estimate those casualties which prevent redeployment of recovered wounded soldiers. These are usually in the range of 2 to 3 times deaths. The conflict has been fought as a war of attrition dominated by artillery, as forced by the dominant Russian military. These types of conflicts lead to the higher side of significant casualties, but lets take a middle 2.5 times. This gives roughly 2.25 million dead or seriously injured. Estimates over 2 million have been given by military analyst Scott Ritter, who also cited a statement by a retired Polish General in the same range. These casualties are dominantly male and in the range of 25 to 38 years of age. This is a significant, if not dominant component of the years in which men procreate with women to produce young in modern western societies.
As an aside, attempts to defeat Russia via land based conflict within Russia or at its borders have failed since the Mongol invasion in the 13th and 14th centuries. No military analyst would sensibly predict a victory of the small state of Ukraine over the larger and more resource rich state of Russia. The conversion of the civil war into an international one can only sensibly be seen as an intentional attack on the peoples of Ukraine. This conclusion has been reached by many analysts, western and otherwise.
A genocide is an attack of the ability of a group to survive. Its definition in the convention against it includes attacks on reproduction to represent this understanding. Ukraine has lost an entire generation of young men, which is a direct attack on its ability to reproduce, and thus a genocide. The war has been maintained by the West, and led by the US, for over a year since it knew that Ukraine was losing. The US and its NATO allies are fighting Russia "to the last Ukrainian" and in so doing are committing a genocide against Ukraine by killing its young men.
Attempts may be made to make this charge of genocide against Russia. They lose credibility because Russia has constantly, publicly stated its willingness to, and has repeatedly engaged in, discussions to negotiate an end to the conflict. The conflict is being maintained by the US and its NATO partners. They have repeatedly undermined negotiations. They are enforcing the genocide which Ukraine's puppet, political leadership are enacting on their own people.
The US and its allies are also undermining the legitimacy of their "universal state", to employ the phrase from Arnold J. Toynbee's "A Study of History". The UN system is underpinned by universal declarations of prohibitions against certain actions, or expressed in the positive, universal declarations for certain rights. A collection of these rights are known as "Human" rights. The Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide is the first, most fundamental of these restrictions or rights. Another associated right is the right to asylum.
By not denouncing and actually facilitating these twin genocides the US and its NATO allies are publicly undermining this foundation of the Western civilization's "universal sate".
Dual Violations of the Inviolable
Another foundational universal agreement is on the inviolability of diplomatic premises expressed in the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations. The Vienna convention not only prohibits any attack on a diplomatic mission, but requires a hosting state to do its best to protect that mission. During the last fortnight two attacks against diplomatic missions have been executed by states within the orbit of influence of the US. The first was US ally Israel's missile attack against the Iranian embassy in the Syrian capital Damascus. This declaration of war level violence contravened not only the Vienna convention on diplomatic missions but the Geneva convention on the laws of war, at once. At the same time, the devastation of al-Shifa hospital, the largest in Gaza, was being revealed with evidence of a massacre of civilians on the hospital's grounds. Some of these murders of civilians were obvious summary executions against which there was no diplomatic expression of disgust by the US.
The second attack on a diplomatic mission was Ecuador's attack on Mexico's embassy in Quito. Diplomatic statements by the US on these two illegal, norm shattering attacks have also been non-existent or tepid.
During the attack on the Mexican embassy in Quito, Ecuador kidnapped a person who had been given political asylum by the state of Mexico. The attack thus undermined not only the Vienna convention on the rights of diplomatic premises, but also the right to asylum. This right of asylum was declared in Article 14 of the 1948 Declaration of Human Rights, and elaborated upon in the 1951 UN Convention. This attack thus contravenes the Vienna convention, the Declaration of Human Rights and UN Convention.
Ecuador, following a $4 billion IMF (US) loan, had previously violated the international law on asylum. It succumbed to pressure from the US to revoke, without providing recourse to a court, Julian Assange's political asylum. It then invited into its London embassy the local British Metropolitan police to arrest the refugee. Mr. Assange's property was then delivered to the US either directly by Ecuador or via its allowance of the British security forces to convey them. This is also an offense against property rights, also enumerated in the 1948 Declaration of Human Rights (Article 17).
While on property rights, the US and/or EU or NATO member states have impounded or stolen the property of the central banks of Venezuela, Afghanistan and Russia.
Shattered Foundations
States, which the US has significant influence over, including itself, are currently breaking, with very limited or no diplomatic protest against, or in direct support of, the foundation of the legitimacy of the "universal state", the US' hegemony. These shattered foundations include:
genocide
massacring of civilians and attacks against hospitals in both war zones
violation of diplomatic missions
denial of asylum
These combined direct, permitted or uncondemned actions are a demolition of these "universal state" foundations.
Again using Toynbee's language, the "dominant minority" within the "universal state" which they have created are, with their inherited privilege, both evoking the civilization's golden history and undermining its legitimacy at once. These, according to Toynbee, are hallmarks of the end of a civilization.
These signs on the path to civilizational oblivion by the dominant minority of the US led Western Civilization are being placed in front of our eyes, in rapid succession, in real time.
A return to civilizational analysis has been growing while one civilizational leader destroys its foundation and an opposing geopolitical block forms its identity based on civilization understanding. The nations of the BRICS+/SCO groups are displaying the character of civilizational evolution presented in Toynbee's colossal 7 million word study. Minority elements within the groups are responding to challenges imposed on their assembly via innovation, again according to Toynbee’s analysis. Their multi-polar, multi-civilizational approach hints that they have studied bodies of work on civilization theory and seek to avoid the pitfalls which await in ascendancy.
Future historians will have the pleasure of recording the successes and failures of the emerging civilizational assembly with its new innovative approach to tending their respectful, geopolitical, civilizational garden.
Meanwhile, current historians are noting the self-destruction of the failing hegemon.
