To make the horror worse, the anti-personnel mines were taken from stocks which the Ukrainian government had committed to destroy.
The Western media's role in enabling this conflict through not reporting on the consistent war crimes by Ukraine during the civil war is yet another bright stain on their credibillity. It was independent journalists like Eva. K. Bartlett and Patrick Lancaster who went to the Donbas, risked being killed in the conflict, and did the reporting. They are heroes like John Pilger, Wilchard Burnett and Chris Hedges.
One of my favourites of articles I have written is:
A Bowl of Strawberries Under Shelling: The Voices and Faces of Donbas; YesXorNo; 2022-06-22
based on Lancaster and Sasha's (camera operator) work. The humility, generosity and courage of the woman they met totally floored me. I was compelled to write the article.
What kind of country drops land mines - which harm civilians for decades - on towns that it claims fighting to protect ?
This what the US and Europe are funding. Wow.
